Threads is Meta’s answer to Twitter, but is it actually worth your time as a marketer or creator in 2025?
I spent 30 days posting daily on Threads to find out:
- what works,
- what doesn’t
- and whether the app has real potential for growth and engagement
Here’s my honest, no-BS review.
Why I Started a 30-Day Threads Experiment
Working in social media marketing for the last 6 years, I’ve always loved discovering new social media platforms and features. I’ve mainly focused on Instagram marketing and have been testing various tools for this app. This includes social media scheduling tools, analytics tools and link in bio tools.
But recently, Instagram introduced a brand new app called Threads. This sister app, is supposed to be Meta’s answer to Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, and pretty much offers the same features. Primarily encourages users to post text-based conversations and single line comments/replies on trending topics.
The main features on Threads:
- Text-based conversations (similar to Twitter)
- Write a reply under a post to start a Thread
- You can log-in with your Instagram account
- Cross-posting from Threads to Instagram and vice versa
- You can schedule your posts with a social media scheduler
- If you’ve used Twitter, you will find it similar
The Experiment Set-Up:
The experiment was simple:
- Log in and post on the app daily for 30 days
- Post all content formats (text-based post, threads, links, polls, image posts)
- Comment on the first 3 threads shown in my feed
- Start date: 12 Aug 2024
- End date: 12 Sep 2024
Now, it’s been more than 60 days since I started the experiment. So let me share with you the results of the Threads experiment.
Key Findings: My Honest Thoughts After 30 Days on Threads
*Disclaimer: All opinions are my own.

#1: I found using Threads really boring – compared to other apps
Posting, engaging and even logging in to Threads felt very boring compared to other social media apps. I’ve tracked my time spent on Threads and compared to other apps like TikTok, Twitter and Instagram.
No surprise here – I’ve spent on average 5-10 min a day on Threads, 2+ hours on Instagram, and about 30 min on Twitter and TikTok. I don’t usually post daily on social media – but even scrolling through the top conversations felt ~ a little meh. Not interesting enough.
Most conversations on Threads shown to my Threads feed were from people complaining about Twitter, and how “it sucks to post” on Twitter.
#2: Ironically, posting a thread gets you lower engagement than single posts
This was a surprise for me.
The social media app is called Threads – so it should be a great place to post longer or, multiple lines of text – aka Threads, isn’t it?
Wrong. Every Thread post I shared in the 30 days had ZERO views, and no engagement. As a comparison, single-line posts got me some decent engagement and views.
#3: It’s easy to gain followers on Threads – but they mostly come from Instagram
Most new followers will come from your Instagram account. Do they really count as new followers? I started with about 300 followers, who followed me through Instagram. And after 30 days of posting, my followers grew by 50. Not bad ~ but I don’t know who these people are and why they followed me. Which leads me to the next point …

#4: Biggest letdown: Threads Analytics
Well, if you know me you’ll know I’m big on analytics. And as a marketer, I am interested to learn more about my posts, and followers, but Threads offers nothing. They only show simplified insights like follower growth, geography and the gender split of my followers. This is not enough depth for me to recommend Threads to marketers or brands. It almost feels like a joke…
#5: The one feature I actually liked: Polls

The standout feature on Threads for me was the polls feature.
I know that Twitter has a poll feature too, but somehow I got more replies to my polls on Threads. Which is a great conversation starter! I loved the interest shown by the audience here on Threads and their participation in my surveys.
Summary: Is Threads Worth It for Social Media Marketing?
Overall, I have mixed feelings about Threads. Did we really need another app? Exactly like Twitter, but for people who hate Elon Musk? I don’t see how this social media tool can survive if they don’t add more unique or interesting features. As the hype dies down, I feel people will prefer spending time on Instagram than on Threads. Perhaps, the plan is to merge Threads with Instagram? Anyway they are targeting the same users.
The Pros
- Polls feature
- Text-based posts
- Ease of use
The Cons
- Limited post insights
- Low engagement
- Not great for marketing
- It feels boring
So that’s what my honest thoughts are after posting on Threads for 30 days! I’m glad the experiment is over and I can finally spend my time on something else. :) Thank you for your time spent reading! Would love to also hear your thoughts on Threads.
